Top 5 Movie Studios

In Hollywood, some movie studios allow tours for the public to explore. These are just some of the options you can check out if you want look behind the scenes of your favourite movies. It is worth noting that in a lot of these tours, actual productions might be going on at the time and certain experiences might be altered so as not interfere. For any movie-buff, these tours are something to look into when you are in Hollywood!

1. Universal Studios Hollywood

This studio also acts as a theme park and rides are themed after movies. Theme Park Rides including The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World: The Ride, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride. The Main Studio Tour is the Studio Tour Tram Ride. Film sets visited include Psycho, Back to the Future, and Nope. On top of that, there is also two attractions within the studio tour called King Kong 360 3-D and Fast and Furious Supercharged.

2. Warner Bros Studio Tour

Here, the tour is 3 hours: 1 hour guided and 2 hours non guided. It starts in the Storytelling Showcase where from there, you’ll get started on your guided backlot tour. You’ll visit sets from movies and TV shows such as What ever Happened to Mary Jane, Blade Runner, and Gilmore Girls. When the guided tour is done, check out Stage 48: Script to Screen. You can build a batmobile in Pre-Production, check out the Friends Central Perk Set on Production and record some sound effects in Post-Production. After that check out cool exhibits on DC Superheroes and Harry Potter. Studio Tour Plus is an extension of the Studio Tour with 2 hours with your guide, lunch at the Central Perk Café, complimentary beverages and pastries, and an exclusive deluxe screening lounge before the tour begins. The Deluxe Tour includes the above plus a look at the props department, and a fine dining lunch at the Studio.

3. Sony Studios Tour

Options include Daily Tours, Group Tours, VIP Lunch Tour, Coffee and Conversations, Twilight Tours, Sony Pictures Museum. On the daily tours, you’ll be on a two hour guided walking tour and see sets from films such as the Wizard of Oz, , Men in Black, and game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. VIP Lunch Tours work a little differently then the daily tour. The lunch tour is limited to 5 guests maximum and is 3 hours. The tour will start at the visitor’s centre with your own personal cart and includes access to the Sony Studios Museum filled with props and artefacts and a delicious 3 course meal in the Commissary Dining Room. You’ll also get a souvenir photo and a store discount. The Coffee and Conversations Tour is very similar except instead of lunch, there is a stop at a coffee shop and there is no store discount. Twilight Tours happen in the evening.

4. Paramount Studios Tour

Two options include Studio Tour or VIP Tour. The Studio Tour is a 2-hour cart tour that takes you to locations such as Bronson Gate, New York Street Backlot, and the Prop Warehouse. Movies you will get to visit include Forrest Gump, The Godfather, and Transformers. The VIP Tour gives you even more exclusive access to other areas such as Sign Shop, Prop Warehouse, Sound Stages. There will also be a gourmet lunch served as well. The Cart tour is 4 ½ hours and there is also a 15% discount at the studio store.

5. Disney Studios Tour

There are currently three different ways to visit The Walt Disney Studios. One option is if you are a member of D23 the official fan club of Disney through gold or general membership. These two and a half walking tours lets you visit several places including Walt Disney’s office suite, the Walt Disney Archives, and Legends Plaza. If you tour on the weekend, you may be able to get inside the Animator’s office exhibit and a private visit to the archives. Additionally, you can visit the animation building where classics like Cinderella, Lady and the Tramp and the Jungle Book were created. Another way to explore the above tour is by joining Disney Movie Insiders and redeeming enough points for a gold private tour up to four or platinum private tour up to eight. The third option is to do the tour as part of an Adventures by Disney tour. Here accommodations, meals, transfers, and attractions are all included in a multiple day package. There are two tours that visit California, Disneyland, and Walt Disney Studios. One is four days and one is six days. Here you can also visit Walt Disney’s private apartment and the Imagineering Tour. On the six-day tour, you can even visit the Jim Henson Company!
